Birth Doulas

"We have a secret in our culture and it's not that birth is painful,it's that women are strong."- Laura Stavoe Harm

The ancient greeks used the word doula to describe the women who would surround and help laboring mothers. Today a doula remains an educator, advocate and assistant to mothers in labor. The purpose of a birth doula is to serve a mother and her partner during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and for a short time after the birth of their child.

I am a Licensed Midwife who specializes in home birth; however, I am passionate about all women being educated and informed about their birth choices, no matter where they are birthing. For that reason, I take one Birth Monitrice (medical doula) client per month, in which I offer normal doula services, along with the reassurance of monitoring the laboring mother and baby at home. I am able to monitor the mother's vitals, along with monitoring the baby's heart rate and perform vaginal exams, so that the family can labor at home as long as possible, before transferring to the hospital.

I have been a DONA International trained doula since 2014 and am also a certified lactation specialist. Birth is my passion and I continually seek new information on supporting birth and birth outcomes. As your doula, I am caring and knowledgeable. I will listen and encourage you; not tell you what decisions to make or talk to health care providers for you. Rather, I will help connect you to resources and information so that your concerns and questions throughout this process will be answered accurately. I will encourage you to voice your opinions to direct your best birth so that when you give birth to your baby you feel empowered that you can do anything. I look forward to supporting you as you journey through the amazing experience of birth.
