Receiving pregnancy massage has been shown to relieve depression, reduce pain associated with pregnancy, improve circulation, lower anxiety, improve sleep and is associated with better birth outcomes - plus it feels good! Mothers report that receiving gentle, nurturing touch during their pregnancies helped them both psychologically and emotionally as well as physically. Acupressure, cranial sacral, trigger point therapy and Swedish massage are all commonly used in pregnancy massage to alleviate general discomfort, sciatic nerve pain and reduce edema and muscle tension.
Massage is also a wonderful and very healing, therapeutic modality for post-partum women. Post-partum massage uses many of the same techniques to reduce pain and discomfort of the post-partum period. Cranial sacral Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) are both used postpartum to help align the sacrum and pelvis and restore the obdominal organs to their optimal position for recovery and health.
With so many changes going on in your body and emotions, massage gently & effectively: alleviates pain & swelling, reduces anxiety or depression, supports better sleep, increases circulation, and prepares your body for labor. I've loved working with pregnant moms for over 20 years & use specially designed orthopedic body cushions which create an amazingly safe & comfortable massage experience. Mommas really enjoy how they feel.

Hello! My name is Jena and I am a Certified Massage Therapist and Arvigo Practitioner in beautiful Santa Rosa. I grew up in Sebastopol, graduating from Analy High School in 2000 and attending SRJC. I left the JC to learn massage and I graduated from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy in Tempe, AZ in 2004. I moved back to Sonoma County to open a private practice specializing in pain relief and women's health. I trained with DONA as a doula in 2007 and as an infant massage instructor with Infant Massage USA in 2009. I also took additional training in prenatal massage at Healing Arts Institute in Citrus Heights.
In 2012, I trained in the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT) from The Arvigo Institute in Greenfield, NH. ATMAT is an external, non-invasive manipulation using only hands to reposition reproductive organs and improve the flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulse, and chi. It corrects the position of the bones of the pelvis and relieves tension in the core muscles. With complementary therapies including self-care massage at home, these techniques remove many obstacles to natural fertility in women and men alike. During pregnancy, ATMAT can also alleviate heartburn and indigestion, and promote proper uterine position for an easier birth. It's also important to receive this work in the postpartum period, especially after Cesarean birth. ATMAT has become a passion of mine and I'd love to share it with you. I hope to complete my Certification in 2015, as well as receiving my introduction into Mayan methods of spiritual healing.
